Strawberry Nutella Hand Pies

I am totally a fan of simple treats every once in a while. You know I love my cakes, but little pies are just too fun. Kind of pike the mini dessert of the pie world. And I love mini things. šŸ™‚

And these are so nice and easy to make with a pre-made unbaked pie crust. I get the Pillsbury brand.

How to Make The Best Mini Pies

Unroll the pie crust and use a 3-inch circle cutter to cut out the circles. You could do other shapes too, if those are the cutters you have.

You’ll want to unroll the pie crust on a non-stick surface. My preferred way is on parchment paper so that I don’t have to use flour – better for using the scraps and not adding flour to them and also less mess. You can use flour though, if you prefer.

Once the circles are cut out, add about 1/2 a tablespoon of Nutella to half of the circles (you’ll need two per pie). Spread it out a bit, leaving about 1/4 an inch around the edges for sealing the pies.

You’ll top the Nutella with the strawberries. You can use either sliced or chopped strawberries. I’ve done both. If you chop them, they’ll need to be small enough – about the size of a pea or corn kernel. If you slice them, it takes less time. šŸ™‚ Just don’t slice them too thin, or you won’t get as much of a pop of flavor.

To help seal the edges, I use my finger to run a little egg wash over the edges of the circle, then place the top circle on and seal the edges with a fork. Cut a couple slits into the top of the pie – or a heart. Spread a little more egg over the top of the finished hand pie and sprinkle with some sugar.

Bake them till golden and beautiful! Give them about 5 minutes or so to cool before digging in. They’re also quite tasty at room temperature. Nutella and strawberry really are a marriage of two wonderful things. šŸ™‚

Ingredients

  • 2 unbaked pie crusts (I used Pillsbury, which comes with 2 in a box)
  • 3/4 cup Nutella
  • 7-10 large strawberries (sliced or chopped)
  • 1 large egg (lightly beaten)
  • Granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400℉.
  • Unroll pie crusts onto a piece of parchment paper or a floured surface. I recommend the non-stick parchment paper.
  • Use a 3-inch biscuit cutter or cookie cutter to cut out as many circles as you can. You can use the scraps to re-roll and cut out more circles. You need an even number of circles and should be able to get 24-28 circles total.
  • Put about a 1/2 tbsp of Nutella in the center of half of the circles. Leave enough of a border that you can press the edges of the pies together.
  • Put strawberries on top of Nutella, covering Nutella. You can slice or chop the strawberries. If you slice them, you'll use one or two slices.
  • Brush the edges of the circles with egg, then place the second circle on top of the strawberries. Use a fork to seal the edges.
  • Brush the tops of each pie with more egg, then cut a couple slits on the top.
  • Sprinkle some sugar on top of each pie.
  • Place pies on a silpat or parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake for 13-15 minutes, until golden.
  • Allow to cool for about 5 minutes before serving.

  1. Now THIS sounds like a recipe I can do. I know you’re a cake person, but I prefer a good pie any day of the week. This sounds amazing. How many 3″ pies were you able to make with one tube of the pre-made Pillsbury dough? I’m already thinking of the cherry, blueberry, and apple additions that would go great with this!
