Description

This recipe for my Grandfather’s Favorite Iced Chocolate Cookies is an old family treasure! The chocolate cookies are pillowy soft, cakey and topped with a tasty chocolate icing.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Cookies

  • 1 cup (208g) sugar
  • 1/2 cup (112g) salted butter, room temperature
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) milk
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 (195g) cups all purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp (22g) unsweetened natural cocoa powder

Chocolate Icing

  • 2 cups (230g) powdered sugar
  • 4-5 tbsp (60-75ml) milk
  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Mix sugar and butter just until combined and smooth.
  3. Add egg and milk and mix until smooth.
  4. Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl, then add to wet ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  5. Drop heaping tablespoons of cookie dough onto lined cookie sheet.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes, then remove to cool. Allow cookies to sit on cookie sheet for 2-3 minutes, then remove to cooling rack.
  7. Once cookies are baked and cooled, combine powdered sugar and milk for icing. Add the melted chocolate then spread onto cookies.
  8. Cookies can be stored at room temperature for 4-5 days or be frozen for up to 3 months.
