Red Wine Chocolate Cake

What is a Red Wine Chocolate Cake?

This easy recipe features three layers of moist, red wine-infused cake, divided by raspberry buttercream, and frosted with chocolate buttercream!

Simple Ingredients

You'll need a few ingredients to make this easy recipe, so round them up and let's get started!

Mix the Dry Ingredients

Whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

Add the Wet Ingredients

Whisk in the eggs, buttermilk, and vegetable oil followed by the vanilla and red wine.

Divide the batter between the cake pans and bake for 30-33 minutes. Then allow the cakes to cool completely.

Puree the raspberries in a food processor and then strain to remove the seeds.

Make the Raspberry Frosting

Beat the butter until smooth and then mix in powdered sugar followed by raspberry puree.

Make the Chocolate Frosting

Beat the butter until smooth and then mix in the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract and cream.

Remove the Domes

Remove the domes from the cooled cake layers, place one layer on a cake plate, and pipe a damn of chocolate buttercream around the edge.

Stack and Fill

Fill the inside of the damn with raspberry buttercream and spread it out evenly. Top with the second cake layer and repeat.

Top with the final cake layer and frost the outside of the cake.

Make the Ganache

Heat wine and heavy cream in the microwave, then pour over chocolate chips and let sit for 2-3 minutes.

Drizzle chocolate ganache around cake edge and over the top. Then pipe remaining raspberry frosting around top edge after ganache firms.

Garnish with extra raspberries, if desired. Then enjoy!
