Banana Pudding Puppy Chow

This puppy chow has been on my list of things to try for forever! I’ve had the banana pudding mix sitting in the pantry since some time last year.

I’m not really sure why it’s taken me so long. Maybe it’s that my list of things I want to make is too long. πŸ™‚

But finally a couple weeks ago, the hubs said that it’d been a while since I’d made puppy chow and he was requesting one. It’s just such a great snack and the hubs doesn’t make requests often, so of course I obliged!

And because we are both such banana lovers, I knew it was time to make the banana version.

I wasn’t entirely sure if it’d even work well with the banana pudding mix. I’d never seen puppy chow done with pudding mix before, so I was excited to see if it’d work out. I tried it a couple different ways, including over the stove using regular white chocolate chips. That didn’t work out so well.

I’ve used white chocolate chips a number of times in my puppy chows. Despite the fact that it’s thicker than other options like candiquik or Wilton candy melts, it usually works fine for me. In this case though, it didn’t.

Tips for Making Banana Pudding Puppy Chow

Adding the dry mix to already thicker white chocolate chips just didn’t do well with coating the cereal. It still tasted great, but for most would seem like a fail.

So I tried again with the candiquik that I had and it worked perfectly!

I was kind of hoping that the candiquik would take on some of the yellow pudding color when mixed together, but it didn’t. Oh well, still tastes perfect!

And I added banana chips for fun and so that it looked a little more banana-y, but that’s totally optional.

As always, the puppy chow was a hit! It really is hard to wrong with it. And the banana flavor of this version is so spot on – I could eat it all day every day.

However, I’ve been trying to get back into better eating and workout habits (I haven’t been so great in recent months), so I didn’t eat as much as I wanted to.

Oh well, that’s the great thing about puppy chow. It really isn’t that bad as far as sweet treats go. And when shared with a group or your family, there’s just enough for everyone to enjoy! πŸ™‚
